Cutler Bay
Cutler Bay, Florida

Incorporated in 2005, Cutler Bay (known historically as Cutler Ridge) is an area south of Miami that is one of the newest incorporated municipalities in all of Florida. Cutler Bay’s history dates back to the 1870's when Dr. William C. Cutler, a prominent surgeon from Chelsea, Massachusetts visited the area and fell in love with it. Dr. Cutler would soon move to the area and make it his permanent home.

Native Americans living in South Florida at the time referred to this area as the “Big Hunting Grounds” for the wide range of wildlife that lived in the area. It was officially part of the Perrine Grant awarded to Dr. Henry Perrine, in 1838. Dr. Cutler bought a 600-acre tract of this land for $1.25 per acre and attempted to establish a fruit and vegetable plantation.

It was really not until the early 1950’s, (when David Blumberg and his partner Joe Segal began developing the land) that Cutler Ridge became an organized community. In the early 1950's Blumberg and Segal bought 1,400 acres of undeveloped land and named the area Cutler Ridge after Dr. Cutler (and the limestone ridge on which the land sits).

The area’s first housing development went up in 1954 and the Cutler Ridge Mall opened in 1960. Street names in Cutler Ridge mostly originate from holidays and various ports of call that Blumberg had visited as a sailor. The area around the mall was named Seminole Plains, and what is now Lakes by the Bay was called Lincoln City back when the streets and parks were being laid out.

Today, Cutler Bay is a vibrant community of almost 40,000 residents who enjoy beautiful surroundings and a true family-friendly community. The Town is bordered by SW 184th Street (Eureka Drive) on the North, the east side of the Busway to the coast on the West, 232nd Street to the South, and by Biscayne Bay National Park to the East. These boundaries form a unique little enclave of approximately 10 square miles.

Prospective residents will find many varied housing options in Cutler Bay from single family homes, to condos, villas and unique town homes.
