Pinecrest & Coral Gables
Pinecrest, Florida

Pinecrest, FL is about 17 miles southwest of Miami and a premiere location for high quality living and luxury homes. It is actually tough to tell what’s higher quality – the overall living, or the pristine high-end homes that adorn its clean, safe and happy streets. Incorporated in 1996, this eight square mile town is roundly recognized as one of the most beautiful residential areas in all of South Florida. Pinecrest is governed by a five member council and operates under the Council-Manager form of government.

An important and unique part of this quaint and wonderful town is Old Cutler Road. This scenic, historic, off-grid plan road runs north-south through portions of Dade County, including prominently Pinecrest, and is very popular road for both sightseeing and bicycling. Speaking of biking – there are a bounty of trails for the avid cyclist and casual weekend biker alike to enjoy.

Pinecrest has much more than just bike trails to offer in terms of recreation and attractions. This relatively young town has come a long way since its inception in 1996. The city also takes a progressive, proactive approach to adding value to its citizens’ overall quality of life – the city council has aggressively pursued Wi-Fi technology in its common areas and a slew of beautification projects including the planting of thousands of trees, unique street signs, and roads being repaved.  In October of 2008, the city proudly opened the Pinecrest branch of the Miami-Dade County Library System. The town’s Parks and Recreation Department maintains a slew of wonderful public parks – Coral Pine Park, Flagler Grove Park, Evelyn Greer Park, Suniland Park, and Veterans Wayside Park – as well as all programs and activities for the Pinecrest Community Center, a place for the community to participate in health, fitness and other personal enrichment programs. The possibilities are virtually endless – from judo to boot camp training, yoga to fencing, SAT Preparation to Chinese 101, there is sure to be something for everyone. And the Community Center is constantly adding programs for senior citizens (health and wellness screenings, defensive driving program, even play Bridge!) as well as for infants and toddlers, such as Mommy & Me classes and pre-school art sessions. Yes, it is safe to say that this town of less than 20,000 puts an emphasis on quality over quantity.

Coral Gables, Florida

Coral Gables’ nickname is “The City Beautiful” – one quick look around will show you just how fitting that moniker is. Located about 10 miles southwest of downtown Miami, and just four miles from Miami International Airport, Coral Gables is a city rich in history, culture, and architecture, boasting the best in luxury homes that southern Florida has to offer. Coral Gables was incorporated in 1925, the brainchild of real estate developer George Edgar Merrick who relied heavily on the City Beautiful movement. This was an architectural philosophy which sought to utilize beautification and monumental grandeur to promote beauty not merely for its own aesthetic sake, but to foster civic virtue, harmonious social order and increased quality of life. Just take a stroll down Coral Way or one of its other prominent streets and you will quickly see the merits of this philosophy – Coral Gables is a truly gorgeous, safe and wonderful place to live.

Coral Gables today is a thriving community of about 42,000 with a bevy of high-end housing options, each home benefiting distinctly from the vision of George Merrick and his commitment to high quality of life, urban beautification and preservation of natural resources. Its Mediterranean Revival style pays tribute to its many Spanish influences – the city’s new free circulator trolley system, opened in November 2003, runs down Ponce de León Boulevard. Coral Gables’ distinctive past is most appreciably honored in the communal spirit of its residents and its governing philosophy, both of which reflect the City Beautiful mentality and its attendant high quality living. The community continues to place a priority on protecting its residential sectors, preserving the environment and maintaining its international flavor. Coral Gables proudly has one of just three National Landmarks in all of Miami-Dade County - The Biltmore Hotel – and also boasts nine properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including Coral Gables Merrick House, Venetian Pool and Coral Gables City Hall.
Coral Gables also invests in its young people; its Youth Center provides a stimulating environment for children of all ages, with an impressive array of programs, activities, camps and special events throughout the year that are constantly being improved and supplemented. This nearly 60,000-square foot behemoth of recreation includes a 13,000-square foot gymnasium, fitness center, outdoor lighted basketball courts, auditorium/theater, dance/aerobics studio, child care room; and much more.
